Jaden & Nuu’s Discovery Tasks

Hello a couple weeks ago in health class we were set a task. We were required to choose a health topic to work on, Nuu and I decided on ACL tears.

First, we had to make 6 Questions:

  1. How do you tear your ACL?
  2. What short-term and long-term effects does the ACL tear have?
  3. What are 2 perspectives on tearing your ACL?
  4. How do we minimise health with an ACL tear?
  5. How does an ACL tear affect your mental health?
  6. What are the positive and negative outcomes of an ACL tear?

Then we had to answer those questions:

1.  A twisting of the leg while applying full downward pressure and the bones in your knees tear apart

2.  (ST) Knee pain, swelling. (LT) Unable to return to the sport, overall reduced activity.

3.  Perspective 1: “I can’t play sports :(”. Perspective 2: “It’s ok, I get to spend more time with my family :)”.

4.  Use a weight distributor like a brace or crutches to minimize the amount of weight you put onto your torn ACL.

5.  You can’t do the sports you love anymore, making you sad and angry.

6. It’s harder to do daily life challenges like getting out of bed walking to the living room showering. An ACL tear gives you more time to do it.

Then we had a discovery task. Nuu and I did a slideshow with 2 videos of Nuu and I recreating scenarios in which you would tear your ACL. The slideshow link is under this.

Climate Change

Climate change is when the whole earth changes a lot over a LONG period of time usually in the 100-year range. There are a lot of things that can cause climate change it isnt always humans fault there can be really extreme weather like the hurricane that just came to Florida called Hurricane Milton, but most of the time it is humans. Humans use cars, planes, industrial facilitys and way more things that use carbon dioxide.

Walking Corpse Syndrome/Cotard’s Syndrome

This mental disorder is when the person genuinely thinks that parts of their body are missing or they are dead or they are dying or they don’t exist and they can even think that nothing exists. This disorder is pretty rare there is only like 200 cases of it worldwide. People that have this disorder aren’t very social like a lot less social than others without it or just stop talking in general, some hear voices telling them that they are dead or dying. Some refuse to eat because they see no reason they are “dead”, and you’ve never seen a dead body eating. This is how Walking Corpse Syndrome/Cotard’s Syndrome affects your Hauora

Physically

  • refuse to care for themselves (eat, shower… etc) because there is no point and they are already dead
  • risk harming themselves

Socially

  • isolation from other people
  • can’t talk to others properly because they think they aren’t a part of the human world
  • family find it difficult to understand their beliefs

Mentally

  • severe depression
  • distorts the way they think (cant think logically and has no problem-solving skills)

Spiritually

  • feel like they have no purpose (because they are “dead”)
  • disconnection from spiritual beliefs (if they had really strong spiritual beliefs Cotard’s Syndrome will change that)

so that is all I have to say about Walking Corpse Syndrome/Cotard’s Syndrome.

Thank you for reading.

touch rugby

hello, our class was doing touch rugby this week in P.E. I have chosen to focus on passing, I have learned that you cannot pass forwards only backward and sideways. you can demonstrate respect by cheering them on and passing the ball to them. it is important to be resilient when you win or lose because you must be respectful to the team that lost instead of making them feel bad, and when losing you must be resilient so you can keep going and eventually win.
